項目發(fā)言人稱，天宮一號將作為空間交會對接的目的飛行器，完成交會對接試驗。
文中的target spacecraft就是指目的飛行器，此次發(fā)射的天宮一號是一個unmanned module2（無人駕駛艙）。天宮一號升空后，將進行docking experiments（對接實驗）。
天宮一號可以用Tiangong-1或者Heavenly Palace 1來表示。天宮一號既是一個空間交會對接的目的飛行器，又是一個淺易的spacelab（空間實驗室），中國籌備借助這個平臺，要進行空間實驗室的有關技術(shù)試驗，并為打造space station（空間站）做籌備。
國內(nèi)計劃在2012年前后發(fā)射的月球車就是lunar/moon rover。Rover一般用來指流浪者，漫游者，譬如：The Indian of the West is a rover of the plain.（西部的印第安人在大平原上過著游牧生活。）
