Neil: Todays phrase is booze cruise1.

Helen: Booze 我倒是聽(tīng)到過(guò)，但這個(gè)表達(dá)的意思是呢?

Neil: Yes, booze, is a slang2 word for alcohol. Usually a cruise is a long journey on a boat. But in this expression, it can mean travelling on a boat, or by car.

Helen: 到什么地方去? 去度假嗎?

Neil: In this expression, British people are usually talking about travelling to France or Belgium, but not on holiday. They go especially to shop for booze!

Helen: 聽(tīng)到了嗎？英國(guó)人想燒錢(qián)花時(shí)間到歐洲其它國(guó)家，譬如法國(guó)和比利時(shí)去買(mǎi)酒? 為何要跑那樣遠(yuǎn)去買(mǎi)酒?

Neil: Well in France and Belgium the taxes on alcohol and cigarettes are lower, so it can be cheaper to buy them there than in Britain.

Helen: 原來(lái)在其它歐洲國(guó)家買(mǎi)酒或者煙的話(huà)，要實(shí)惠不少，由于稅低。

Neil: Often people go on a booze cruise for a day-trip, either by boat, or by going on the Channel Tunnel.

Helen: A day trip 1日游。

B: Yes, we went over to France on a booze cruise and bought loads of cheap wine.
